Coaches COE

Coaches Code of Ethics

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for each player participating
in the MSO soccer league by following this Code of Ethics:

  • I will support the mission of the MSO and follow its guidelines, as well as the guidelines
    of the NJSA, and USSF.
  • I will respect the referee.
  • I will remember that playing sports is an opportunity to learn and have fun.
  • I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating a positive attitude toward all
players, coaches and officials. I will provide a positive perspective on competition by
stressing humble winning and graceful losing.
  • I will demand that the players play within the rules of the game and lead by example,
    showing respect to the referee.
  • I will remember that the game is for the players and not for the coaches.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of each player ahead of any personal
desire to win. I will praise in public and criticize in private. I will give equal attention to
all players. I will be consistent, relevant and fair in my use of discipline.
  • I will minimize sideline or over-coaching and set an example for players and spectators.
  • Good Sportsmanship is a cornerstone of my team attitude.
  • I will respect the referee.
  • I will respect my opponent’s coaches. I understand that without opponents there can be
no game and that my opponent shares the same interest and passion for the game.
  • I will not disparage my opponent based on ability or any cultural differences.
  • I am responsible for my own actions.
  • I will try not to swear or use bad language.
  • I will be humble in victory and graceful in defeat.
  • I understand that the competition is conducted in a public forum whereby children may
be present. I will conduct myself with the utmost in self control refraining from foul
    language, jestures and altercations.
  • I acknowledge that as a coach, I am a member of a team and as such, I am responsible
for my team-mates as well as myself. I will encourage and remind my team-mates of
this code of conduct and will accept the consequences of any disciplinary action placed
upon my team as a result of word or actions by myself, team-mates and assistant coaches
    coaches.
  • I have read, understand, and agree to the above and also to the attached penalties for
    inappropriate behavior.
